INGLEWOOD.
FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT. June 14,—The induction of the Rev. R. J. Stanton as vicar of St. Andrew’s Church, Inglewood, took place on Tuesday night. The Ven. Archdeacon Evans officiated, and was assisted by the Rov. F. G. Harvie (vicar of St. Mary’s, New Plymouth), Rev. Favell (vicar of Holy Trinity, Te Henui), and Rev. Gavin (vicar of St. John's, Waitara). The church was fairly well filled, tho very wet night, no doubt, preventing many from being present. The service was very impressive and tho archdeacon’s address most appropriate. On Tuesday afternoon a wedding of much loc-J interest was celebrated between M?ss Elsie Margaret Buckthought, of Durham Road, Inglewood, and Mr. Herbert H. Curtis, only surviving son of the late Mr. H. B. Curtis and of Mrs. Curtis, of “Bushloa,” Inglewood. The ceremony took place at St. Andrew’s Church, the Rev. R. J. Stanton being tho officiating clergyman. The bridesmaids were Miss Buckthought (sister of tho bride) and Miss Marjorie Dixon (niece of the bridegroom). The best man was Mr. H. Stratford, a former resident of Tariki, who returned with the bridegroom from the front. After the ceremony tho bride’s parents entertained a large number of guests at the Town Hall. The wedding presents were numerous, testifying to the esteem in which the young couple are held.
The Norfolk School scored the following successes at the Winter Show: Writing, 1 and 2; garden note-book, 3; graphs of manurial tried results. 1; carrots, Sinclair 1, Matchless White 2, White Belgian 1, long red 1, any other variety 1; swede, Superlative 1, Monarch 1; mangolds, long red I, Jersey Queen 2, Prize-winner Yellow Globe 2. Mr. R. E. Thomas, headmaster, and his staff are to bo congratulated on the result of their teaching. A football match, between ■ the New’ Plymouth High School and Inglewood First Juniors was played on Thursday, resulting in a. win for High School bv 9to 3. Mr. F. Julian refereed. A euchre party and dance in aid of the Inglewood PlunjTht 'Society’s funds will bo held in the Town Hall on Thursday, Juno 19. Good prizes are again promised.
Land agents must be doing well just now as many houses and farms have changed hands lately. There is not an empty house in the borough just at present.
