NOTES BY “HISTORICUS.” (By Telegraph.—Special to Herald.) AUCKLAND, June 3. The weather was spring-like, the attendance enormous, and tho betting a record for a winter meeting. No Surrender was installed almost a level money favourite for tho Hunt Cup, and duly won. Jacaranda would possibly have won had he not lost his rider, as he had a big lead at that stage. Pierrot carried £lO more-than Cadet in the Ranfurly Welter. Mountain Gold was best backed of the others. Gray rodo the New Plymouth gelding, which had run half a mile in 50see. on the morning of the race. He drew outside position at tho post, was last away, and hung off tiro course all the way, eventually finishing at tho tail end of tho field. Pierrot hails from the same stable as Comedy Prince, the first day’s winner. The Eemuera Hurdles was _ a great betting race, all the runners being evenly supported. Ditto led Sleight-of-hand most of the way. Approaching the last fence Thrace joined the leaders, and going on won nicely. Paraoa, who jumped too carefully, just failed to catch Art for third place. Sleight-of-hand bled on Sunda.y morning, but pulled up all right after the race today. Waimai, Troublesome and Alas ter Lupin were supported in tiro above order for the Great Northern, with a hundred or so between them. Waimai looked better than at any other stage of his career; his party were confident, but so was James Bull, who stated his horse wais the best natural jumper which ever raced over Ellerslie. Tutehcn could not hold the top weight, which immediately went to the front and led for 21 miles, giving a faultless exhibition of fencing. Master Lupin was always running second and, jumping like an old stager, he passed Waimai going down the back the last time. After jumping the double nt the top of the hill the Martnn gelding was ten lengths in front, but Waimai put in a great ran right up till the last fence and had Master Lupin doing his best to win by three lengths. Te Onga and Troublesome fell, and Arlington, which was sore, baulked. Parisian Diamond carried £2400 out of a machine of £12,000 in the King George Handicap. Anything else was paying the limit. Gray got the top weight out remarkably well, and he w-as running second into the straight. Hero he took the lead and looked a winner at the Leger stand, but Parisian Diamond tired from this on and Housewife, getting a run on the rails, won by half a length. White Blaze came fast and failed by inches to catch tho favourite. The winner and Paddington Green both delayed the start. Both ran well, the latter finishing fast in fifth berth. Reformation w r as an odds-ou bet fertile Jumpers’ Flat, but ran like a commoner. Hineamaru was also an odds-on bet in the Carbine Plate, Cynic being the only other one backed. The rider of tho favourite gave a shocking exhibition of riding, and one is safe in saying that if the rider was a professional his license would be jeopardised. Omahn, nicely ridden by the trainer’s eon, won easily.
