HYDROELECTRIC POWER.

SOURCE NEAR TE KUITI. r There is promise of a source of e'feor trie power close to Te Kuiti. Mr. Andrew Wilson has written to the Borough Council from lit.ngat.iki as follows: “It is not generally known that there is a great amount of power going to waste on the Wsipa River, 15 miles in a straight lino from Te Kuiti. There is a waterfall with a cataract below it and in one place' the water rushes through a trough which is so narrow at the top that a smart man could jump across it. Between the top of the waterfall and the bottom of the cataract there must be a drop of about 150 ft., and there is a large volume of water passing over it. Ido not expect for a moment that your town is prepared to make immediate use of this power, but, if it is possible, it should endeavour to secure the waterfall, as there is ample power there to supply the whole district, and it will be of great importance in the near future. In a very brief time the 15 miles will he all settled country, and a lino would be made use of from the start.”

Tho .Mayor, Air. G. P. Findlay, said at Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council that the news came as a great surprise. At various times the council had had Government electrical engineers in the district inspecting all the known sources of supply, but, so far as ho knew, their attention hadi never been drawn to the soiirce mentioned. He moved that Mr. Wilson be thanked for his letter, and that tho Government electrical engineer be asked to view the fall, and report to the coun* cil.
