While a barrister was examining a witness he chanced to ask him about the character of the dead man who figured in the case, to which the witness replied: “He was a man without blame, beloved, and respected by all, pure in all Ills thoughts, and—” “How did you learn that?” demanded the judge. “I read it on his tombstone,” was the disconcerting reply.
