INVESTMENT AND LOAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The 43rd annual meeting of the Now. Plymouth Investment and Loan Society was held on Friday afternoon, Mr. . F. Brooking) chairman of directors) presiding. The directors in their annual report complimented the society upon an increased business during the past year. There had been a much better demand for money and a desire on the part of many to own their own homes. Consequently the merits of the society were being more inquired into, and they had been able to help many to acquire homes who, but for the advantages offered, could not have otherwise obtained them. They trusted that the town .was on the eve of considerable improvement in this direction. The directors had gone very carefully over the business of the past year, and had scrutinised the securities held very minutely, and found that without exception they were of a first-class nature.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, referred to the increased demand for houses iji New Plymouth. This had caused an upward tendency in the society’s advances, and shareholders should congratulate themselves upon the good year just ended. He wished to express the regret they all felt at the loss of Mr. J. B. Connett, who had been their chairman for some years, and who was, he thought, one of the society’s original members.

The retiring directors, Messrs. T. Furlong and W. C. Weston, were reelected, and Mr. E. Whittle was elected a director in place of the late Mr. J. B. Connett. Messrs. C. F. Foote and C. H, Wynyard were re-elected auditors. Mr. 11. G. Hughes moved : ’“That the. shareholders of the society at this their annua! meeting desire to place on record their deep regret at the death of Mr. J. B. Connett. their late chairman, and their appreciation of his valuable services for many years as Chairman. This was seconded by Mr. W. F. Brooking and carried, members standing. Upon the. motion of Colonel Weston, the directors and secretary, Mr. C. S. Rennell, were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their services for the past year, the directors being voted the usual honorarium.

As a subsequent meeting of directors Mr. IV. F. Brooking was-elected chairman for the ensuing year.
