WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. A The ordinary meeting of the Whangamomona County Council was held hist week. There were presentCouncillors W. A. M'Cutchan (chairman), D. Pitcaithly. H. M'Lood, N. Cleland, J. Rentoul/O. M'Aloon, M. Gleevor, and A. Coyne.

Tho matter of providing metal for the Brower Road was left in the hands of tho riding members and the overseer to deal with. Tho overseer was instructed to have the Kohi Road opened for wheel traffic; also to put tho Junction Road in safe condition for horse traffic, at a cost not exceeding £2O. On the motion of Councillors Coyne and Rentoul tho council endorsed the resolution passed by tho Milton Borough Council in regard to the carriage of produce by a State mercantile fleet. A portion of thirds will he spent in repairing the Whanghmomona Road between Talmnaroa and the Kohi Road. Notice of intention to strike rates was given by the chairman as follows: “That a general rate of 3Jd in the £ in Strathmore Riding; 3-id in tho Pohokura Riding ; Id in the 'Central Riding; and 3.1 d in the Tahora Riding, bo made and levied for the year commencing April 1, 1019, and ending March 31, 1020, such rate to be payable in one sum on July 2, 1920. A motion was passed authorising the raising of a loan of £2.50 for the building of a bridge over the Mangaehu stream near the junction of the Mangaehu and Mnngarewa Roads The Chairman was requested to write to tho Minister of Lands in reference to tho spread of noxious weeds in the county. It was decided that Councillor Rentoul and tho overseer view the site o c the flood-opener on the Mangaehu Road, at Hughes’ clearing, and bring down a report at next meeting.

Tho clerk was instructed to write to the Advances to Settlers’ Depart ment, pointing out that owing to tho rise in cost of material between the date of raising the loan, and the completion of Ko. 2 bridge, this bridge cost £SOO more Ilian the loan, and asking if a further loan of £3OO can bo granted on tho same security.

The Council by way of Special Order authorised tho raising of a loan of iIOOO at 44 per cent, tor 36 years, for the purpose of widening to dray road widt h the Okara Road as far as the money with £ for £ subsidy will allow. Councillor Gcovcr was appointed delegate to the Counties Conference. Accounts amounting to £495 wore passed fur payment.—Stratford Post.
