WAITARA.
FROM OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT, May 27.—1 will hot a box of matches that the interesting article from your Rotorua correspondent which appeared in Saturday’s Herald was written by a visitor to and not a- resident of that world-famed place, and that tho writer is well known ,in Now Plymouth. An old resident passed away at Tikorangi on Sunday in Mrs. Ellen Spencer, widow of Henry Spencer. She died at the residence of her daughter and licr son-in-law, Mr 1), Griffiths, and is to -be buried to-day in the Waitara Cemetery. The deceased was well known in Waitara and was of a most vivacious and energetic disposition. The Government has the reputation locally, and probably Waitara is no exception, of being among the worst “pays.” General accounts incurred during tho influenza epidemic are still unpaid, while- the Railway Department is known in more than one instance to be more than six months in arcars with its payments.
