LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT,

PALMERSTON N., May 27. A fatal accident occurred at Bunnythorpe railway crossing this afternoon. A spring cart driven by Ronald Pederson, son of the widow of a farmer at Roberts’ lane, was crossing the _ line when the New Plymouth train collided. The horse was killed instantly and the cart completely wrecked. Jean, the youngest child, aged 8 years, was decapitated; Alexander, aged I*l, had a fractured, skull and his left leg fractured and nearly severed ; Ronald, aged 13, had his skull injured and thumb fractured; Phyllis, aged 14, was thrown clear. Alexander is not expected to recover, The crossing is an open one and in full view. The engine-driver says ho blew the whistle and the children tried to back the horse off the line, but it was too late.
SUICIDE OF AN Old) MAN
AUCKLAND. May 27
An old man named William Stacey, who lives at Mt. Albert, was found banging in a patch of scrub about a quarter of a mile from’his home to-day. He was quite dead when found. Deceased was 71 years old, and had been in delicate health for some time. SUDDEN DEATH. A visitor to Auckland- named Wm. H. Kirfclan, collapsed in a tramcar tonight. and died on his way to hospital. He was a resident of Kaitaia, and Lis collapse was due to a fit.
