RAILWAYMEN’S WAGES.
DEPUTATION WAITS ON MINISTER. Pei- Press Association. , WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. A deputation of members of Parliament interviewed the Hon. W. H. Herries to support the demands of tho Locomotive Engine-drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners’ Society for increased wages and improved working conditions. The Minister said he could not deal with the grievance of one society without considering others; also an amendment of the schedule of wages could not bo made except by Act of Parliament and in consultation with all railway societies. Railway servants had been better treated than the Civil Service. He would be quite prepared next session, when the bonus would have run out, to put before the House an amendment to the wages schedule. He hoped to meet the societies after Christmas.,
