A GREAT BRITISH ATTACK.

ON A WIDE FRONT NEAR ARRAS.

VERY HEAVY FIGHTING.

CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS MADE.

FRENCH ADVANCING NORTH OF SOISSONS.

The British forces from south of Arras to Albert are heavily engaged in a push towards Bapaume from the north and east. They are meeting rather strong resistance, but are gradually forcing their way forward. Albert has again been taken and most of the Arras-Albert railway is in our 1 hands. The Trench are making excellent progress north-west of Soissons and have cleared up nearly the whole of the triangular area bounded by the Aisne, Oise, and Ailette. The general scheme is that the British are attacking strongly on the northerly face of the big Amiens salient, while the Trench are driving in the southern side.
