Captain F. Hartnell has been attached to the 49th Reinforcements. C. M'Leod, W. G. Douglas, and, W. Trim, all of New Plymouth, have been promoted to the N.d.O. class. Mr. Stanley Smith, of New Plymouth, is in Trentham Camp, and is attached to the camp police. Among the non-commissioned officers of the 46th Reinforcements are Corporals George Pearce and Francis Morshead, of New Plymouth. Tho Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, left this morning for Wanganui, where he will preside at the sittings of the Supreme Court, which, open there on Monday. Writing on June 28, the Evening Post’s London correspondent says that Lieutenant-Colonel’ Claude Weston, N.Z. Infantry, was presented with his D.S.O. by the King at Buckingham Palace. ‘ Mrs. F. A. Macdonald, of Inglewood, has received word that her brother, H. Lylian, who had gained the Military Medal for carrying wounded men under heavy fire, ha.s since received the Croix de. Guerre for gallantry in the field, this being the second honour in four weeks; The- following is an account of the deed which won the D.C.M. for Private A. L. Stnnney, of New Plymouth:— Private A. L. 'Sturmey, Rifle Brigade, brilliantly organised parties to cover the withdrawal when a greatly superior enemy had reached to within 20 yards and by boldly working a machine-gun under heavy fire, assisted in the final repulse of the enemy. He himself killed 14, and by his example a very small party “effected tremendous execution in the enemy ranks.’’. Private Sturmey received his decoration from the King, at Buckingham Palace pa June 23 last. Private fiturmey- comes of great fighting stock, two of hifl nephews, sons of Mrs. Tanner, Fitzroy, having already made the supreme sacrifice. ’ '
