FRENCH PROGRESS WELL IN THE SOUTH.
The news to-day 'is most encouraging and shows that the 'Allies are determined to keep the Germans hustled. The big merman salient that was pushed towards Amiens is now being battered in business-like fashion. The first attack was made on the front nearest Amiens, but to-day two blows are reported, one on the northern side, by Sir Julian Byng’s 3rd British army, and the other by General Humbert, between the Oise and the Aisne. The British have gained ground which brings them fairly near Bapaume and the French have pushed along the Aisne almost to Soissons and along the Oise to Sempigny, within two miles ot Noyon. The direct advance on Roye and Lassigny is also being pressed on, and a considerable German retreat will have to take place very soon.
