HUNTING.
NORTH TARANAKI HOUNDS. The North Taranaki hounds met at Messrs. Skelton and Edwin’s properties, Waihi, on Thursday afternoon. The weather was all that could be desired and there was a large attendance of both followers and spectators. Harea were numerous and there were some exciting runs, one bunny in particular leading the hounds a merry chase until it eventually gained cover in prohibited country. The fences had been well sphered and there was some excellent jumping by the more well-known performers whilst a number of new horses qualifying to take part in the race meeting to be held at Hawera also shaped well. Hounds worked well together and the afternon from every point of view was a particularly enjoyable one. A few jumps had been erected in one of the home paddocks and at the conclusion of the hunt the followers entertained the spectators to exhibitions of jumping. Subsequently Mr. B. H. Chaney, deputy master, extended the thanks of the hunt and friends to Messrs. Skelton and Edwin and adjoining property owners for having granted permission to hunt over their properties and for the trouble they had gone to in sparring the fences. He also thanked the ladies for their kind hospitality which he could assure them was very keenly appreciated. The next meet will take place at Mr. Tawhanga’s property at Waihi, where there is some excellent country both from the followers’ point of view and also that of spectators.
