MOTUIHI INQUIRY.

FURTHER EVIDENCE. PJK PP.ES9 ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. At the Court of Inquiry, Major Sir Robert Walker, general stall officer, said the question of increasing the guard was entirely a matter for head-, quarters, Wellington. The guard was reduced on the suggestion of General Robin. Witness considered extra men were required at Motuihi to prevent) .the prisoners escaping and to obviate the continual scares. He could not say he had ever landed on the island officially, as the island had nothing to do with district headquarters. He found that out when he came to Auckland. Major Price, recalled, said/that Captain Dyer, the previous A.A.6., toldl him, when he made an inquiry, that the district headquarters was not responsible for the control of Motuihi. The court adjourned.
