Webster. / Tha autumn meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club opened to-day under auspicious circumstances. The weather conditions proved' to be everything that could be desired,- and - large ctowds. of visitors werepresent from near and far. The course was looking at its very beat, the track being in tip-top condition. Alterations have been made at the main gate that greatly facilitate traffic. The tioketlbox has been moved inside, and a new exit has been provided l for motorcars. The club’s caretaker, Mr. J. Blewman, has the lawns and beds of nemesia, pansies and antirrhinum, etc., In splendid order The various appointments all earned tic hearty commendation' of visitors, the arrangements made by the secretary (Mr. E. Polthogue and Deeside gave some trouble at the harrier, and the former was badly left. Otter and Sail Home led past the stand, with Jiu Jitsn and Paul Moore next, in front of tha bunch. King. ; The start was not a good one, .Munition bouncing out in front, Movement and Royal Park next. Munition led into the straight, hut Movement soon passed her. Inside the distance Matty, which had been kept handy, came through nicely and wop by a long neck from Movement. Ritasea was two lengths away third. Munition was fourth, at the head of a bunch. A good start. .Wishful, was first to show out, and led past the stand from Toa Tere and Lord Kenilworth (together), Dingle, White Blaze, Paraoa, and Alteration (in a.bunch) and Chortle (who-did, not get away well). Wishful maintained his lead along the back, Toa Tere and Paraoa. next, with Chortle improving ;his-position, At the High School bend White Blaze ran into third berth, and kept there till the field entered! the straight. At this stage the names of Wishful, -White Blaze,- Toa Tere, and Chortle were being proclaim-

ed. However, Wishful ran on easily and stalled off; all challenges, winning by one and a half lengths’from. Dingle, which came through in splendid style from a long way hack and, .defeated Chortle by a length. Toa Tere was close up fourth and White Blaze was fifth. Time, '2min. 9sec.
