MONTHLY MEETING. The New Plymouth Patriotic Com- . roittee met on Tuesday night. Present; The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess), chairman, Messrs. W. J. Chaney (deputy-chairman), L. jM. Monteath (lion, secretary), J. Patou (hon. treasurer), J. Clarke, J. R. Hill, C. Carter, C. E. Bellringer and Ven. Archdeacon Evans. An apology was received lor the absence of Mr. C. Fund, ... 610 0 Balance hire of Motor-car Fund 25 0 0 £507 19 8 SCOTTISH WOMEN'S HOSPITALS. An appeal for funds for the Scottish Women’s Hospitals for War Service was received. Tho Mayor stated that Wellington had recently raised a substantial sum, whilst Hawera had contributed £l9O. The first unit of tho organisation was established in Calais in November, 1914, for the purpose of fighting the typhus outbreak there. A hospital with 100 beds’-was established a few weeks later, and tho accommodation was speedily increased to 400 beds. Much greater work was now being done in France. The organisation had also been represented in Serbia, Roumania, Salonika, Corsica, and elsewhere. It was stated that the Mayoress, who had also received circulars, suggested they should bold a combined day. It was decided to ask her to call a, meeting to make arrangements. GENERAL. The Mayor, referring to the. tent erected for returned soldiers near the Mt. Egmont Hostelry, said the total cost was about £27. There were four stretchers, a table, four sleeping suit. 4) and the tent had been floored. Hehoped that men needing a rest would take advantage of the opportunity offered.—A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. A. C. Upson, the guide ( at the North House, for his work in putting up the tent and flooring it, free.—Mr. J. R. Hill said no park fees would bo charged for the returned soldiers using the tent. In connection with a sum of about £3O cabled by the committee to Mr. D. N. Mac Diarmid for Christinas com-, forts for Taranaki soldiers, the Department of Internal Affairs notified that in future, for tho'purpose of “checking/’ donations should be sent through the headquarters of the Y.M.C.A. at Wellington.
