THE PEOPLE’S PICTURES.

Sessue Hayakawa, who is appearing at the People’s Theatre to-night in “Forbidden Paths,” is an actor who never over accentuates the dramatic incidents of a story. His work is always natural. His interpretation of the. character of Harry Maxwell, a society man, is a fine piece of work. Maxwell, leaving for Mexico, neglects Mildred, his “Little Cherry Blossom.” Immediately after his arrival in Mexico he commences a fast society 'life, later marrying Benita Ramanez, a notorious demimonde. It is theh that he realises his mistake. He returns to New York, where he meets his former lover. Just as he is about to marry her, his Mexican wife appears. There follow a succession of intensely dramatic scenes, the conclusion being sensational to a degree. Vivian Martin appears as the heroine. In addition to “Forbidden Paths,” . the latest Australian and American Gazettes are shown, and the excellent film, “The Melbourne,” showing fine scenes of the enormous crowds and traffic and the race in which Biplane is beaten by Westcourt. Tuesday’s change presents a most powerful Russian Secret Service drama, presenting the master actor Theodore Roberts, and entitled “Anton the Terrible.”
