MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society was held at the office of the (secretary, Mr. AY. iP. Okey, to-day. There were present: Messrs W. B. The sub-committee appointed to confer with ladies interested in the welfare of tho society with reference to the catering at the show reported that two meetings had been held and that the ladies were taking the matter up enthusiastically, and that already their arrangements were well advanced. Many of the preliminary details had been attended to, and various Subcommittees had been appointed. The sub-committee appointed to consider the question of number cloths, etc., used By competitors in the ring events reported having met, and that they had decided to procure a new set of numbers somewhat larger than those originally used and which it was thought would be clearly seen by tho public. The action of the committee was confirmed. Messrs. Pratt and E. Vincent were elected members of the committee. A letter /was received from the district traffic manager, Wanganui, stating that owing to wav conditions no special trains would be available for show days, and that on the first day of the show no alteration would be made in the ordinary service, and that on the second day the afternoon train would be delayed to leave New Plymouth at 4.45 p.m. and Smart Road at 5 p.m. It was resolved that this committee views with regret the intimation from the Department that no special trains can be provided this year and that on the second day tho afternoon train was merely delayed to leave New Plymouth at 4.45. The service is very inadequate and it is respectfully suggested that at least n. special train be provided from as far ns Hawera. to arrive in New Plymouth during the morning of People’s Day and returning from New Plymouth at 6 p.m. It was reported that Mr. E. Whittle had agreed to conduct the booth on the same terms as last year. The matter of arranging necessary tent accommodation was referred to a sub-committee consisting of the president and Messrs. Grant and Moore with power to act. Messrs. Smith, Longstaff. and T. Luxton were appointed judges of the green feed competition Mr. W. Stanley was elected a life member of the society. It was decided to communicate with the Borough Tramways Department asking them to arrange for as frequent a service as possible on show days, more particularly on People’s Day.
