CONTINUANCE OF STRIKES. IN BOHEMIA AND CROATIA. . (Received Jan. 25, 1.26 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 24. The Daily News correspondent at Geneva reports that the strikes in Bohemia and Croatia continue, but else-, where work has been resumed. It is becoming hourly more apparent that the workers have gained a remarkable triumph. The Government restored order only by capitulating to thp strikers. If the Brest Litovsk negotiations result in a Russian peace the Austrian workers will remain quiet. The failure of the negotiations will lead to events of tremendous importance. Berlin realises that the break-down of the negotiations will mean (Austria’s defection. There was a remarkable procession of ton thousand women in Vienna,.carrying peace banners, on Monday afternoon, and violent anti-German speeches at fourteen great peace meetings that night. AUSTRIAN. GOVERNMENT ' REFUSAL. TO GRANT CZECHS HOME RULE. (Received Jan. 25, 1.30 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, Jan. 24. Dr. Soldier’s reply in the Reichstrath, in which ho rejected the Czech resolution in favour of an independent Czccho-Slovnk Stiyte provoked wild Beenes. Czech members, violently gesticulating, surrounded Dr. Soldier, shouting “Liar; resign,” and finally compelled the abandonment of his speech. ■ \ Dr. Seidler indicated that ho had the Emperor’s authority to state that every Austrian Government would resist by all means in their power the attempt to establish Homo Rule) for the Czechs.
