ON THE HIGH SEAS.
THE GOEBEN AND BRESLAU. DETAILS OF THE ENGAGEMENT. LONDON. Jaij. 22. The Admiralty reports:—The Goehen arid Breslau emerged from the Dardanelles at early.morn on Sunday And attacked our forces northward of Imbros, with the result that two of-our monitors were sunk. The enemy went southward of Imbros, where the Breslau was forced into the minefield, whore she Was mined and sank. The Goebon went full-speed for the Dardanelles. Turkish destroyers coming to the assistance of the Breslau were driven off. The Goeben also struck a mine at the entrance to the Dardanelles, reducing her' speed and causiugUier to settle down aft. Finally she beached herself ml the west side of Nagara, where she is being continuously bombed by aircraft. We rescued 173 from the Breslau, whilst 132 were saved from our monitors oufirof 311. Viscount Broome, Kitchener’s nephew and heir,. commanding a monitorsunk at the Dardanelles, was saved uninjured.
