A Brisbane cable reports that Mr. D. E. Hoolihan, a New Zealander, will manage the State arsenic mine. Moore, of New Plymouth, has been appointed judge of the dog section at- the Egmont A. and P. Association’s show,i to be held on Eebruary HO and 21. ’

The sad news that Private Cecil Frederick Putt, of the 28th Reinforcements, had died of wounds in Franco, was received on Monday night. Private Putt was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Putt, of Glen Road, New Plypiouth, and previous to enlisting was bn the clerical staff of the borough council. He leaves a wife and infant child.

Mr. T. Moss, Efficiency Board Commissioner for the Wellington Military District, arrived in New Plymouth by Monday .night’s mail tram, and had an informal meeting with the local trustees —Messrs. T. Furlong (chairmaij), E. Whittle, and F. J. Hill (secretary). The business done by the trustees was reviewed. Mr. Moss left this morning for Waitara, and also intended to visit Urenui and TJruti. To-morrow he goes to Opunake and then to Stratford. FrormStratford he proceeds to WhangamomoiiTi, Dhura, and Taumarunui.

The death is announced at Palmerston North of Thomas Gore Graham, aged 89 years. Mr. Graham arrived in Auckland in September, 1862. after & four mouths’ voyage in the ship Hanover. He was for some time a teacher in Bishop Williams’ Native school In Poverty Ray, subsequently joining the staff of the Banlcy of New Zealand at Auckland. Ml - . Graham was afterwards transferred- to several branches of the bank, including New Plymouth, Wanganui. and Wellington. Resigning from the bank’s staff in 1868, he was appointed accountant to Messrs. Brogden Bros.and later occupied a similar position’in the Wellington branch of Messrs. Kempthorne, Prosser and Co.

The Patea Press records the death of Mr. AY. Dickie, which took place at AVaverley at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning. Mr. Dickie, who has suffered from internal complaints for many years was taken seriously ill a few days ago, and removal to»the Patea Hospital was advised. Complications, however, set jn before he could he removed, and ended fatally on Saturday morning. Deceased was well known and highly respected, and his _demise will he regretted by a largo circle of friends. In partnership with his brother for many, years he carried on business as a miller in AVaverley, and when, the nartnership was dissolved ha took over, the AVaverley business.
