STRIKES AND RIOTS., IN AUSTRIAN CITIES. BEENE, Jan. 19. 'The Neue Ercic Press reiiorts that the strike movement is general' throughout lower Austrffi, Trieste and' the Trieste valley. A]l war industries in Vienna and its neighbourhood are shut, and there are 10,000 strikers in the Wiener Ncustadt locomotive and munition works. Machine, metal and transport workers form the principal body of strikers. Very serious rioting has occurred in Vienna, Grata and Salzburg. Over 80 stores, food and clothing shops, and several restaurants in Vienna were pillaged. The police intervened., Many on both sides were injured. The garrison refused to march against the strikers. The whole of Bohemia is in a state of commotion. Soldiers fired oh the. rioters at Prague and Pal,sen. NEW YORK, Jan. 18. The United Press Petrograd correspondent reports that wholesale- disaffections are spreading throughout the, Austro-German army. Entire Austria* companies have been shot for sympathising with Russian Socialism. Twen-ty-five thousand. armed’ Germans have, joined the fast-growing number of deserters. Hindenburg is strenuously endeavouring. to put down insubordination. and has ordered a thousand to be shot for refusing to "obey their officers. THE RAID ON KARLSRUHE. LONDON.
