Mrs. H Win is' nas received word that her husband, Private H. Willis, who is returning invalided, will arrive in New Zealand shortly. Mrs. M. Leary, of Leach Street, has received advice that her son. Sapper Ernest Leary, is being invalided homo. Sapper Leary left with the 4th Penforcements, saw service on Gallipoli. where he contracted pleurisy, and when convalescent returned to Now Zealand. He left for the front again in January, 1916. and was wounded in the left arm at the Somme the following September, since when he has been under treatment in England. Mr. N. K. MaeDiannid, who for the lost 28 years has been manager of tho local branch of the Bank of N«w South Wales is about to retire. He joined the head office of tho bank in Sydney on July 6. 1871, and arrived in New Plymouth on November 10, 1889. He has been granted six months’ leave of absence on full pay, and then retires on pension. During his long residence here Mr. Mae Diarmid has earned the respect of the community as well as of tho hank’s clients. fid has been associated with many activities of a public and semi-public nature, notably, the High School and .St. Andrew’s Church. However, we shall perhaps have an opportunity later of referring at greater length to his long association with New Plymouth.
