WHANGAMOMONA AND KOHURATAHI NOTES.

®FROM OtTB OWN CORRESPONDENT, December 4.-—The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Mission was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, on the evening of the 27th ult. The Moderator (ilev. J. Dawson C. Madill), of Stratford, presided. The resident missionary (Mr. A. H. Nome) read the annual report, which showed that weekly services were conducted at Whangamomona and at regular intervals at seven out-stations. Sunday schools were doing good work at Whangamomona, Whitianga and Pohokura, the latter being lately established. A session and Bible class had been formed. The financial report showed that, with the aid of a liberal grant from the Church Extension Committee, all expenses had been met. There was a sum of money in hand for building a Sunday school hall, which could be used for church services by all denominations. It was agreed to proceed with the erection of the building as soon as possible, and to thank Mr. T. A. Bridge, of Ma’naia, for the offer of liberal financial assistance in this connection. A representative general committee of management was formed which, on the advice of the Moderator, included several ladies. Votes of thanks were accorded to the respective school and hall committees for the use of their buildings, also to tho organists in the township and the several stations. The Moderator congratulated the missionary (Mr. Norrie) and tho superintendent of the Sunday School (Mr. V. P. M. Long), and. the congregation on the satisfactory report. Mr. T. Taylor was appointed hon. general treasurer. A vote of sympathy was extended to Mr. and Mrs. H. Gill in their recent sad bereavement. On Monday afternoon a severe thunderstorm was experienced here. In some parts very large hailstones fell and took until next morning to melt away. In the township the downpour was the heaviest for some time. A resident, in coming over the WhangaTnomona Saddle, saw a tree struejk with lightning just in front of him, but fortunately other than a severe shock ho did not suffer any harm. Tho local telegraph operator either got knocked off his seat or jumped off with shell shock, when tho lightning in fusing the wires made a loud report.
