CITIZENS’ BAND CARNIVAL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the general committee appointed to make arrangements in connection with the Citizens’ Band Carnival, to be held in Rukekura I’ark ami the Recreation Grounds on December 27, was held on Wednesday evening, Mr. S. G. Smith preskiing. It was reported that the doll voting contest was under weigh. Three dolls have been secured, one being donated by tho 8.K., one by Mr. Hart, and one by the bandsmen. The competition will be run on similar lines to baby competitions, and prizes will bo awarded to the boy or girl disposing of the greatest number of tickets for any particular doll and for the best aggregate number.

Mr. S. Brooks kindly donated a special prize—a silver medal—to tho boy scoring the most points in the athletic and swimming events. Messrs. J. R. Hill, 0. J. Howarth, B. Benuocb, G. Peek, H. Feck, H. Moon, J. Harvey, Cross, Corner, Hoffmann, F. Newell, J. Revell, W. J. Penn, E. Bary, 0. Johnson, J. H. Frethey, W. Griffiths, C. Sadler and J. Lovoll were added to the general committee.

Tho chairman reported that a meeting of ladies was hold on Monday last and that those present were enthusiastic about tho carnival, it was agreed to have ice cream and soft drinks and sweets stalls and afternoon tea. A further meeting will bo hold to-morrow (Friday) afternoon, and a general invitation is extended to all ladies interested in the welfare of the band to attend. A donation of £T was received from the Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess). Mr. it. L. MTlroy, chairman of the programme committee, reported that it had been agreed to hold children’s sports from 11 to 1 o’clock and that the grand march in fancy dress should start at 1.30. This would be followed by exhibitions of physical drill, foot races, swimming events, poi dancing, Highland dances, decorated go-carts, etc., tug-of-war, fancy dancing, flag march, hurdle races, bandsmen’s and ex-bandsmen’s races. Messrs. Whittle. Milne, Hayden, Bennett and George were appointed a committee to take charge of tho athletic events. The question of advertising, etc., was left in the hands ot the advertising and grounds committee, of which Mr. T. Petty is convenor. Mr. H. Moon was added to tho programme committee, and Messrs. Peek, Brooks and Gimson were appointed stewards in connection with the tug-of-war. Other details were discussed, the committee boiug most enthusiastic and determined that no effort shall bo lacking on their part to make tho carnival a success. The next mooting will bo held on Wednesday of next week at Mr. Cattley’s office at 7.30.
