INGLEWOOD.

FROM our. OWN CORRESPONDENT. Dec. I.—Mr. Frank Dombroski, who was invalided home from active service, has had to undergo an operation to his eye in the New Plymouth hospital. The patient is doing as well as can be expected . Mr. Walker, of the New Plymouth Life-saving Society, visited the school yesterday, in company with those locally interested in the movement. The, visiting gentleman gave a practical demonstration Of the methods of handling a subject in the water and of how ,to secure release when gripped. Ho then demonstrated how to restore the apparently drowned by artificial respiration. Over one hundred scholars, belonging to the upper classes of tho school, were taken for the lecture, and a number of them then went through the business, picking it up with groat rapidity. The headmaster (Mr D. P. Evans) expressed his very great thanks to Mr. Walker for the" work he had taken. Kaimata School was- then visited for a similar demonstration. , A lad of about six was brought in from the Lepper Road yesterday with his nose literally split in half. It appears that an unshod horse with a very sharp edge to his hoofs was standing in front of the boy. and on being frightened by a loud noise, let out vigorously, the sharp hoof cutting the nose downwards with the action of a razor. When the poor little patient reached Inglewood ho was ordered to Nurse Bennett’s, where Dr. Nutting stitched up the nose. Although a good deal of bleeding had taken place, there was every chance of a good recovery, with little disfigurement. The. sale at Mr. Dean’s farm yesterday brought dealers and farmers from far and near. It is reported that very good prices were fetched, the stock and implements being in excellent condition.
