PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.

SPECIAL MEETING. The Pukekura Park Board met on Wednesday night. Present: Messrs. R. C .Hughes (chairman), W. L. Newman, H. Ford, W.. A. Collis, W. F. Short, J. W. Hayden, and A- Gray (hoh, secretary). Leave of absence was g anted to Messrs. R. Cock and C. E, jllringet. The curator" (Mr.'W/ W, Smith) re-' ported that the weather had been favourable to tile work, which had progressed weU. The chief work had been mowing grasses, grubbing gorse. and burning rubbish. The walks around the upper lake had been edged, hoed, and cleaned. The gale had: done no damage beyond strewing the parkwith rubbish. The tea-rooms had been- roofed with corrugated iron, and the verandah of the tool-shed had been renewed. Both roofs had been painted. A painter had suggested that the floor of toe new verandah should be oiled instead of painted. The -contractors were constructing toe new boat landing steps in concrete, and toe material ; was now on toe ground for building the new waterfall flowing from the upper lake. The- electric light department were now fixing the wires along toe Carrington Road, walk, and this work would: be finished immediately. In view of toe Christmas holidays approaching he intended to effect improvements between the tea-rooms and; toe racecourse, ife thanked too board for holiday leave from November 1 to 12 inclusive.

The application of toe Citizens’ Band for- the use of Pukekura Park on the evening of December 6 was acceded to. It was decided to ask the hand to state definitely their proposals for further- assisting the- board in- the lighting arrangements for evening concerts, etc., in the park Discussion,, took, place regarding to© financial position of the board,,.and it was decided to dispense meantime with toe services of one of the workmen. The chairman strongly opposed, .this. It was decided to increase the curator’s salary. by £26 per annum. . The. chairman reported having seen Mr. Messenger with regard to the mirror waterfall. He had also -interviewed toe sub-inspector of police with regard to destruction of the board’s property, and toe sub-inspector had stated his willingness to assist in every way. The chairman was authorised to arrange re the lease of the tea-rooms. A request from toe hand fete committee for two members of the Lifesaving Society to use the lake for demonstration purposes, and ah application by Mr. MTlroy, acting headmaster of the Central School, for permission for boys to bathe, were both granted. Messrs; Hayden and Short were appointed a committee to report on toe fence on the west side of the Liardet Street entrance.'
