HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries aud Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, August 4, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise, specified, arc average market prices on spot.): — Meat.—Home-killed mutton and beef and English lambs are in fair supply. Prices arc easier. Government have increased the quantity of New Zealand and Australian lamb for the consumption of the general public; continues in good demand on account of low prices. New Zealand mutton, per lb., BJd ; ewe mutton, BJd; Argentine mutton, lOd; New Zealand lamb, lOd ; Argentine lamb, lid ; New Zealand cow beef, small supplies; second-class quality fores, 8d ; hinds, lOd; Argentine beef, no quotations owing to short supply. Butter and Cheese.—Butter: Following maximum prices have been fixed for salted blitter during the next two weeks : —New’ Zealand, per c-wt., 208 s; Irish creamery, Canadian, Australian, American and Argentine, all 20G?; unsalted butter, 3s more in each case. Cheese: No maximum prices have boon fixed for cheese with the exception of English cheddar, 132 s per cwt. Butter; Strong market, good demand for all descriptions at maximum prices. Danish butter, no supplies available, no quotations. Hemp.—Manila hemp market continues firm; receipts July 15 to 31, 56.000 hales. New Zealand hemp, good prices being paid for spot. Quotations are irregular. Small sales have taken place; New Zealand, high-point, fair, per ton, £96; New Zealand high-point, fair, July to December shipment. £9O; New Zealand fair, spot, £80; August to October shipment, £B9. 'Wheat. —Little business Going. Offerings from all sources arc small: , prices remain unchanged. Oats. —Market continues firm ; best quality Canadian, 6-ls 6d ; American, 645.
