A correspondent with the American navy abroad reports that a United States cruiser rammed a submerging U-boat, and it is believed that the latter was sunk. SUBMARINES STILL DANGEROUS. BUT PROGRESS BEING MADE. (Received June 22, 10.10 a.m., LONDON, June 21. Tho latest figures reveal that the submarine menace is unabated. No analysis of the number of arrivals and sailings can minimise the essential gravity of the situation. So far as can he judged, Germany’s U-boat strength has not yet been substantially reduced. Although the Gorman boasts that she is turning out submarines faster than wo are able to destroy them may be exaggerated, tho fact remains that no sovereign method of counter-attacking submarines has yet been evolved. Nevertheless there is reason to believe that wo are making progress and that much expert knowledge is now being devoted to the problem.
