TARANAKI’S EAKLT HISTORY

Saturday; June 22.—At about three o’clock yesterday morning a. hre broke out at the cottage of Mr. 1 atnek M'Koy, in Gill Street, which totally destroyed the building. We may therefore expect that early next week tho town will be loft without a soldiei until tho arrival of that portion of the 18th Royal Irish which, it is said, is to bo stationed here. A rifle match was fired on tho 11th inst. between Lieu ten ■ jilts Turner and Fleury (50th Q. 0.) and Messrs Thomas Humphries antT Jneias Hoskin. Colonel Ha.mfev was umpire for the military, and Captain Rowan for the civilians. The scores were as follow: Humphries 65. Hoskin 49, total 111; Turner 46, Fleury SO, total 96.
