Tim Auckland Racing (Tub's programme for 1916-17' ha- just been published. For the spiring meeting on Saturday ami Wednesday, November 4 and 8. tile amount of added money is £6950, for the summer meeting. December 26 and 29 and January 1 ami 2. £18.950, autumn meeting, Saturday, April <, ami Easter Alonday. April 9, £7950. and for the winter meeting. Juno 2. 4 and 6. £9150. making a total of £43,000. The programme also includes the list of nominations and conditions for future classic events. Air. D. Barry ha's presented a thoroughbred to the Alayoress, All's. C. H. Burgess, on behalf of the fund for providing Christmas comforts for the soldiers. Hydraulic ran third in the Rangitikei Hunt Steepleduise at the Alarton meeting. The luglewood-owned Alaid o’ Gowrio won tho Alarton Handicap, leading all the way and finishing very comfortably ft length ahead. Crawford ran second in this event. Tho New Plymouth-owned Golden Grafton was taken down to the Alarton meeting and finished third in a’ good field in tho Electric Hack. Astor, Ticino, Flying Camp and one or two other Taranaki horses failed to gain places. King Victor, who fell in the North Taranaki Hunt Cup Steeplechase, was very lame when lie returned to the saddling paddock. Kiwitca surprised many sports by the manner in which she- won the North Taranaki Hunt Cup. Although not a big horse by any means Kiwitea proved her ability to carry weight over a distance, A. E, Neale, who has been training Air. G. P. Donnelly’s horses for some time past ha,s enlisted. Bee is now.a. warm favourite for the Caulfield Cup. while she is also one of the short-priced division for the -Melbourne Cup. I A North Island gentleman recently purchased a “racehorse” for a tenner, and >n due course forwarded inquiries to a, Wellington firm as to tho price of a set of racing colours. The quote was £3 3s, to which tho owner objected, “ns lie only paid £lO for the horse.” The firm thereupon advised him to sell the horse ami buy three sets of colours. There-.has boon a good deal of discussion lately, in different parts of tho Dominion, regarding the obligations of jockeys to owners and trainers. Tho Auckland District Committee has dealt with the subject in a practical manner. as licenses issued by that body have attached to thorn the following notice, signed, by the secretary. Air. J. F. Hartlaud: “I am instructed by tho District Committee to advise you that any jockey failing to attend regularly at tho tracks to ride work may have his license withdrawn by the committee.” In the leading training centres of Australia, a register is kept, in which a record is made of tho aitendauoo of jockeys during training hours, and any rider who fails to do bis duty in the? matter of riding work is liable to have awkward questions put to him by the authorities. The system lias also boon copied by those who control tho pony courses, and it works admirably.
