SI MBA, Sept. <5. lord Chelmsford, in opening the Legislative Council, outlined the proposals to eradicate Anstro-Gcrman influence in India and for dealing with the question of after the war trade. Referring to the question of supplying the Dominions witli labour, the Government, he said, was trying to devise a proper system of recruitment and the_ proper treatment of Indian lalwiir in the country of destination. Uncontrolled recruitment .should not lie allowed. The relations existing between India, Afghanistan and Persia were cordial and harmonious. The lovalty of India had been steady during tire war. They bad supplier! and kept up the strength of large forces in Franco. Fast Africa. Egypt. Mesopotamia and Murat. Hie Indian army had proved a great imperial asset. Recruiting was excellent, and enlistments since the opening of the war exceeded tho entire strength of the Indian army in August, i!)H. The expansion of the military transport was equally good, whilst the Indian marine had done splendid work.
