INGLEWOOD.

FROM OUR OWN CORRMPONnENT. Dec. 9.—-At the local rifle range to-da,y Inglewood defeated a team from Uronui by a margin of 42 points. The contest was interesting, with good weather conditions prevailing. On the Bth Mosers. Ballantyne and Whettor conducted tho Sixth Standard proficiency examinations at tho Inglewood School. About thirty children from tho schools in this district made this place their centre. Tho local Standard 6 made a very good showing—all except ono pupil (who gets a competency) beiug practicaly certain of tho proficiency. Tho Kaimata and Norfolk schools are marking tho end of tho school year by an operetta and a school concert respectively. The former takes place on the 13th and 15th, and the latter on tho 17th lust. Mr. J. Bullard, who has boon for some considerable time in Mr. H. Thomson’s office, leaves here next Monday for the non-coms, camp at Trontham. Mr. D. Grant enters .Mr. 'lliomson’s office, not Messrs. W’estqn and Weston’s, as 1 erroneously stated in ray last notes. The statistics of the W’ar Census make rather interesting reading. They go to show that men of 35 years are in the majority, totaling 9984, the next class being those of 30 years, with 9550. From 19 to 24 the figures arc well below this, probably because these are the most general" ages of tho men on active service. Why should the men of 35 and 30 have such a decided lead ? Probably the best answer would be the Mad flatter’s “Why not?” Seriously (or frivolously) are those tho npos when slackness attacks one, or, on tho other hand, is a man definitely “anchored” at those two times of life or excessively “all-aiive-oh ?” f challenge anyone to solve tho problem.
