mot! OCR OWN CORBESPONDKHI. Dec. 7.—The usual weekly meeting of tho North Taranaki 'i’utnotie, League I was held on Monday night. Tho dole- ; gates present from nub-branches were: i Mossny J. W. Foreman and Alexander 1 (likorongi), Atkinson and Harper Lei>per (,i.op|>criou), H. M. Pnrdie and Graham tWaihi), Harnett and Butt (Uruti), Smith and F. V. Andrews (Huirnngij. • , A sum amounting to £lll Is lOd was i handed in as collected in Tikoraugi.

It was resolved that a letter of thanks be aent„to the Mother and Sisters of the Convent School, thanking them for their elforts on behalf of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, Mr. Bennie haling handed, in £2l Us nd as a result of the concert last week. The chairman announced that £32 Is 3d net had been realised hy tho ladies at the man on Saturday lust. The Mayor stated that, as arranged at tho la-si mooting, the sub-committee had considered the matter of a carnival week, and recommended that it should commence on Tuesday and conclude on Saturday. The business people had unanimously agreed to dose their premises at I o'clock mi each day. It was proposed to hold tho carnival at the end of February, or early in .March. Dealing with tlie question of a carnival, it was suggested that four queens (should be run, covering tho whole of the North Taranaki district—one for Huirangi, Lepporton and Sentry Hill; one tor Cronin and TJruti; one for Tikorangi and Waihi; ami one for Waitara. Tho idea wins for all the districts to make up their minds to comiioto one with the other.

Mr. A ttjjison said that so far -as he was coiic.orned, he could not at that stage Undertake to state whether his cotmmtiee would agree to a carniial queen . It would bo necessary to put the matter before tho committee.

Air. Barnett and air. j. W, Foreman expressed similar views. The Mayor explained that of course the, object" of their meeting was to lot the country branches have as clear an idea as ppsible of the proposals, so that they cousG place them before their committees. They were not expected to give a definite" answer there and then. Mr. J. Foreman could not say what would lie the views of the Tikoraugi settlers in regard to a carnival queen. There was no doubt that it was a wonderful way of getting money, and that, of course, was what they wore after. Air. H. At. Purdie said that they had divided the Waihi district ..np, and made one man responsible for each partition, who made a monthly collection. If they were going to continue that method, unless the, money wont to tlie carnival queen, he was afraid there would bo some difficulty.

It was pointed out that whatever events took place in the districts the proceeds would go towards That district’s candidate.

Ultimately it was decided to hold the matter over for a- fortnight, in order that fho delegates might place the matter before their committees. Mr, Johns said ho had seen Mr. Tweedio, of Awakino, and a sub-com-puttce, had been formed there to work in conjunction with North Taranaki. Mr. Butt mentioned that one of their members in Unrti sent milk to the North Taranaki Dairy Company, and a percentage of hia cheque was devoted to the fund. Ho wished to know whether such -sunk could ho credited to TJruti.

Mr'. Were said that it was simply a matter of book : keepi»K, aud thcro was no reason why it should not bo done as desired. . . Mr. Foreman said that whdo there wore threat efforts being made to raise funds," as yet there was nothing before the people as in the lines on which they were to be distributed. He know, of course, that the movement was in its infancy, hut it was one of the first thioßs that their committee should do to devise a method for disbursement. 'll lore were people who questioned the advisability of raising such largo sums unless they were safeguarded. Mr. Were said that, the rules of tho War Funds Association, which it was expected that tho meeting would sane lion the chairman to sign bn their -behalf, dealt exactly with the matter, they wore the machinery rules governing the administration of the funds of the whole of the Taranaki district, and were practically the same as these drafted at Wellington in view of a national scheme, and wore in every way satisfactory. , .

Mr. Buchanan spoke to the meeting on the question whether it would not bo advisable for tho committee to take steps to increase recruiting in tho district. Ho admitted that the district hadydono well, hut tlie need was great. It was, after some discussion, decided to lot the matter drop.

Tho Leppertou delegates said that the boundary fixed was from the Mangnraka Biver from the beach to tlie TaruruUngi Lino, and tho Tarurutangi Line to a point to bo defined between Lcpperton and Inglewood,

“Arrayed in robes of white,” the summer girl is an absolute vision of joy to all mankind,-but to “frame the picture” she should wear a pair of those dainty white shoes R-ennic’s offer at only seven and eleven.
