The members of the Beil Block Sewing Guild have been, very busy Jor months past assisting m malting up parcels 01 clothing suitable lor wounded soldiers, and also lor tho poor m Britain aud Belgium. Un 'luostiay a pleasant evening was spent at toe uuenro party and uanco. Air. J. Connell was chairman, aud during the oven.ng remarked on tho splendid work accomplished by the ladies, homo of me articles wore exhibited aud included one case ol clothing lor poor in Belgium and Britain, wnilst no less than 10 pairs pyjamas and i:U dozen slippers were avauuble for iho wounded solmers. Tho school children had also ably as* faisted, their contribution being several knitted scarves. The attendant 00l the public was very good, and no time was lost in gelling the cards going. There was some very keen play, no less than seven gentlemen securing second Honours in the male competition. Mrs. D. Bishop was too good lor the opposition in tho ladies’ class and won hist pnzo (pair shoes donated by Mr. DockriJl). Miss Bundle and Mrs. J. Connett tied tor second prize (d’oyley donated by Mrs. S. R audio), and handed it back to the committee. This, with a silk handkerciuet donated by Mr. T‘. Andrews) realised ICs. Mr. A. Bishop was first for gentlemen and won tho verv acceptable gift or 501 b. hour (doualod by Mr.. F. Bundle). As mentioned previously .seven players claimed second place honours, ami handed the prize back to the committee. Tho music for the dance that followed was provided by Mis.-* Brewer, and greatly pleased patrons. Mr. L. Bundle ably fulfilled the duties of M.C. Miss LeiuTi wa?> very successful in her \ocal it-em. During' the evening several ' ming ladies {in charge of Miss Bote)—Mivcs Kuby Crocker, E. Richards, Nila Street, Kathlyn Holmes and Kathleen Downes—sold sweets and netted the acceptable sum of Ti 17s 6d. The takings for the eurd party and dance totalled £9 I Os.

Tho consignment of goods exhibited makes the second lot of clothing ready, the guild having already dispatched sc veial soU of pyjamas, etc., some time previously.
