Writing from Suvla Bay, a doctor in one of the Australian hospitals says: — ■‘l wish 1 could transport you over-hero for a few , minutes to this quaint old spot. One’s views of the importuned of things ebanges-wonderfully. Men wander about, bathe, have tea lights (when a mail comes in with some cakes), and all tho time guus are roaring and shells bursting—one gets a Kismet feeling, takes reasonable cure, and leaves tho rest to Higher Hands. Olio loses the sense of fear more or less after the first day or two, though the swish of a shrapnel shell or a bullet makes one duck involuntarily. it is during the big attacks that trouble comes. I havn’t been in one yet, but it must be pretty horrid. Am longing to get a bathe more than anything. One can got down and bathe m the sea, but the whole place is under fire and the Turks can see one, and if there are many in together bang a few shells (shrapnel), which burst over one’s head and send out about 100 bullets and odd bits of iron, etc. I had to attend tho result of one yesterday, and it has crumped, my stylo as far as bathing goes considerably. At night one sometimes gets great views when our ships and batteries get going. Tho Turks don’t tiro much heavy stuff at night, as it gives away their gun positions, so the boats have more or less of a solo, but tho Turks give them « doing next day, and their gunnery is jolly good. We are all sick of tho war, but there will bo no giving in hero till wo get through or get. pushed off. Ite wonderful to soe the work our colonials have done, and to hear the way they are spoken of. Imagine a colonial being received with open arms by an English regiment, as-I was hero.ibecaiisoiL-wasarcolonial-”,
