NORTH TARANAKI NOTE?.
I , I (By Our Travelling Reporter.) : ' The Clifton County Council men are busy breaking-up; repairing or'reforming the roau jiut outside U aitura. A gang of men, a plentiful supply .of stone, and a steam roller should soon right manors, in the meantime traffic rolls through a mud track that treats everybody to a coat of grime an(l a meal of grit. * The Morth Taranaki Dairy Company, like other factories iu this province, is experiencing a capital season. Last season some of the suppliers left the company and went in tor cheese. Despite this fact the excellent season has brought the company's total up to last year. This' must be considered excellent. At Onacro the North Taxanaki Dairy Company are making casein and turning out about 10 blocks daily. The factory manufactures pasteurised but- •, tor, and the skim-milk from this is run off into vats, and in further treatment the casein sots hard and firm, and rolls out in blocks like cheese. ‘Tire remains of the liquid is then removed by suppliers to the farm. The farmer who takes milk to tho factory on Monday returns with tho skim casein milk of Sunday. One would think there was little, if any, nourishment left in the liquid. The food must be there, however, as the cattle along the roadside look a remarkably good class of dairy stock. Mr.' Hii.se, manager of the factory, reports that catvle round Drenui and Waihi have picked up remarkably well and the milk supply, despite tile late storm, continues £ood. Tho pasteurising of the cream Had a lot to tV with •the high grading, ’ which now reaches 94. Some of tho settlors away back must find pioneer life a bit awkward. At Urenui I met a man who had to bring a horse 10 miles to get shod. A journey of 32 miles swallows up most of the daylight. The farmer took the matter quietly. “A man wants a day off occasionally,” he said, “and this is my day off.”
