MOA ROAD BOARD.

, QUESTION OF. MERGING. LETTER TO COUNTY COUNCIL. At the monthly meeting of flto Taranaki County Council a tetter was ceived from the secretary of the Raima ta branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, enclosjng a resolution passed at a iccont meeting stating that the branch was in iavour of. tho Aloa Road Board district merging into the j Taranaki County, provided that the , council would undertake to provido and relam a suitable road-making plant in I the Aloa Hiding. Councillor J. Andrews did not seo j that such a guarantee could be given, i Councillor Bhinio said that if they would bo no better off they had better stay where they were. Councillor Morton said that the council would have to have another plant, which would probably be in the Aloa district and that adjoining. Ho moved that tho branch ho informed tliat in the event of tho Aloa Hiding merging into the county, a separate crushing and loading plant would of 1100005113' be kept in that riding and m those adjoining. Councillor Brown seconded tho motion. . Councillor Conuc-tt was in favour of the motion. Ho believed in encouraging

outside ridings to come in. If the-plant i was not sufficient they would have to got more, but he was in favour of giving them tho same treatment as! other ridings. ; , I Councillor Lawrence said that in con- I nection with machinery the Head Board had ordered a roller and crusher, and if it merged the county would have to take them over. They were on order and would become a liability to tho board. Tho Chairman said that what Councillor’Council had said was quite true. They would not pet preferential'treatment. It would be a mistake to keep the plant in the Aloa Riding. Councillor Lawrence understood that the union wanted n guarantee that tho machinery would be stationed there. ’ Councillor Connell said it was unreasonable that the plant, should ho l.f-nt wholly and 'ololy in the Aloa district. Councillor Brown raid it could not bo done. There was only a little over 2000 yards of metal per year for their 150 miles of road, which was a little , over a.month’s crushing. ' ’• Councillor Finnic understood the chairman to’havo raid 'at Okato a month ago that if tho Men district merged the council would have to get extra plant. The chairman said they had two ioilers, and a crusher was all that was ceeoSHury..; ‘ . - ' i The motion was carried. ■ j
