WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. The Arbitration Court opened today. In me cooks’ and stewards’ dispute it was announced that a complete agreement had been received, and as award was fixed for two years from August X, in the grocers’ dispute it was announced tnat there.had been a complete agreement at the Conciliation Council. Tho court .made the agreement into an award and decided that it should come into operation on December 20. Ganuaway and Co., master .stevedores, appealed against tho decision given by tho Inspector of Awards under clause 26 of tne waterside workers’ industrial agreement. Counsel for appellant stated that the agreement provided that the rate for stevedorage and general cargo w*v.k should be Is od par hour. The men refused to work case oil cargo on the steamer Physa for less than 2s an hour. The employers might have taken other courses, but preferred to bavo the dispute settled amicably. They referred the question to the union, but the union refused to have anything to do with it. Subsequently tho dispute was referred to tho Inspector of Awards, who gave a decision which it was contended was wrong. The caso was sot down for Friday.
