'A GOOD RESULT. MB. MASSEY PLEASED. PEI! PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. A few brief comments were made by Mr. Massey to a Post representative this afternoon on the National Register figures. “I consider the results of the war census exceedingly satisfactory, ho said, “and creditable to tho men of New Zealand, I had perfect confidence that when the position was put to them they would do the right thing and I am satisfied now they will come forward when wanted, and so far as I am able to judge a very largo proportion of thoso willing will bo required. Speaking of Die 3-1,386 not prepared to volunteer for tho expeditionary force nor service in a civil capacity, Mr. Massey said: “It must bo remembered that a number of them wc.ro men with families and in farms or business in a small way, and to leave in existing conditions perhaps would mean ruin. Alien the actual position was known ho believed it would bo found that this position applied to tiio largest proportion of that number. The registration cards gave verv little room for explanations of this kind.”
