ENTERTAINMENTS.

BEAKER BROS.’ NEW CIRCUS. Baker Bros.’ Circus should attract big crowds when they open next Saturday afternoon at the old tennis courts, Devon Street West, opposite the 6.P.0., when a special family matinee, at 2.30, for ladies and children will be given. The performance will be exactly the same as in the evening. The great Globe of Death sensation is a thrilling item, in which Miss and Master Str.ig perform some daring feats on bicycles and “Indian” motor-cycles. The globe is a huge transparent steel sphere, 18ft. in diameter - , and looks like, a huge grey balloon. _ Miss Staig is claimed as the only lady in the world who has ever attempted and accomplished such difficult feats with a motor-cycle. Master citaig reaches the climax when he enters the globe by the specially constructed door with his powerful “Indian” motoroyoJe. Starting off at a terrific pace, he attains a speed between forty and fifty miles per hour, then, taking - , a sharp turn, ho completely loops the loop, not only once but six, or eight times. During this dare-devil ride nis machine and body aro at all angles: at most he is riding upside down. The act is indescribable, and must be seen to credit that it is possible for any human being to perform it. There is also a complete programme of circus artists, including Happy Jackies and ibis troupe and dogs, who (perform a Risley act,- also walk the tigbt-rope and turn complete somersaults in mid-air. This act alone is a treat for the children, and should not be missed. Miss Barbarina Baker will present a contortion and acrobatic act nil the high pedestal. Kyoto, the Japanese, is very amusing, juggling many articles with his feet. The Human Aeroplanes, by La Belle Gertie ihj} Barbarina, is an aerial dental act of no mean order. Master Frank, the equestrian marvel, performs seemingly Impossible feats on horseback. Sloper, the only Chinese piebald donkey and four-legged comedian in the Dominion, also appears. Mr. Fred Carlson, the singing musician and monarch of harmony, will present a unique musical act,'with his own invention, the drainpipe phono, and other instruments, including the, ilugal horn. Dare-devil Mephists and his sensational flying trapeze act is most exciting. This act he performed sixty feet in mid-air at the White City, Sydney, last season before many thousands of patrons. Gentle Annie, the bucking genette, will prove heaps'of fun for the sports who like a gentle and quiet ride. Kadama and Miss Baker will present potpourre act introducing our Allies in the great war. In all a grand programme will be submitted, and the big, two-pole Sent, which will tax the space of the old tennis courts, should he crowded at each performance. There will be reserved chairs and seating accommodation for all patrons at popular prices. Wounded returned soldiers from the front are cordially invited free at each performance.
