THE DARDANELLES. CONTRADICTORY REPORTS. PARIS, Doc. 3. A communique states that the artillery is active at the Dardanelles on both sides. We greatly damaged the Turkish works. Tho weather has been severe, but is now mildei. AMSTERDAM, Dec. 3.; A Turkish communique says:—"We captured a portion of the enemy’s entanglements and trenches near Anaiarta. An enemy cruiser opened fire on our left wing, but retreated before our torpedoers. NEW ZEALAND CASUALTIES. WELLINGTON. Dec. 3. The latest returns issued by tho Defence authorities summarise tho casualties in the Expeditionary Force to November 29 as follows; —
REPORTS FROM CONSTANTINOPLE. SALONIKA, Doc. 3. Mr. G. Wade Price reports that Greeks who have arrived trom Constautiuople state chut food is very dear there. The casualties of tho Turks at the Dardanelles are estimated at 200,U00, and many of them, sick and ill-clothed, continue to. arrive from Gallipoli. The Turks maintain that tho Dardanelles cannot be forced, and look forward to the time when the arrival of German ammunition will enable them to drive off tho Alves. Tho Greeks said that a battery of German 10-inch guns had boon sent to Chanak, but it is likely to he five weeks before railway communication with Austria is re-established, the Serbians having greatly damaged tho Nish to Belgrade section. A TURKISH REPORT. NO GREAT SUCCESS CLAIMED. (Received Doc. 4, 10.50 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Dec. 3. A Turkish communique says: There was fierce bomb-fighting at some points on tho Dardanelles front. Two enemy armoured cruisers near Anafarta and two near Ati Burnu and Seddul Bahr supported tho fire of tho batteries. Our artillery replied, damaging tho trenches and destroying a machine-gun position at Anafarta and the position of some bomb-throwers at Ari Burnu. Our artillery by terrible fire hunted a cruiser ,off Seddul Bahr, forcing her to retreat. Ah aeroplane bombed an enemy torpedo boat which was stranded on the northern shore of tho Gulf of Saros.
