RUMOURED DIFFERENCES WITH AUSTRIA.
ITALY TO ACT IN THE BALKANS. GERMAN ACTIVITY IN GREECE AND ROMANIA. The Germans are using every effort to strengthen their influence in Greece and Roumania, and hence we are receiving very diverse reports as to the situation in those two countries. Every day improves the position of the Allies, since there is no evidence, of a great Austro-German success and Daly has now determined to take a hand. The Germans and Austrians have Lad a difference, whether owing to Austria’s desire to make peace or to now tariff proposals is not clear. The trouble will he temporarily patched up. In Germany the strain of the war is beginning to tell and the Social Democrats are anxious to have a statement of peace terms. Germany will still- fight on, but without the confidence she had at first. General Moraht, the military critic, admits that a great victory in Serbia cannot be claimed, and fears that the Serbian army, assisted by Italy, may again appear in the field.
