RED FED RESOLUTION.

WELLINGTON, ' A few days ago the Point Elizabeth, and Liverpool State Collieries Em- 1 payees' Industrial Union passed a resolution resenting the utterances of cor-. tain members of the Ministry and, of • th© press, “inasmuch as they aro endeavouring to bring on a feeling favourable to conscription of th© fiesb andj blood of the working class of New Zealand, while at the 4 same time^f ailing to ; conscript the wealth and private pro-* ' perty of the rich. Furthermore, wa: aro determined to meet such a calamity : as conscription- by an industrial revolution.” . , A copy of this resolution was Tor*? warded to tho Premier, who to-night 'stated that he had forwarded reply ; tb the union, wherein ho took exception, to the wording and sentiments ex-; pressed in the resolution. He was proud that what were referred to as . the working, classes had volunteered so well for service, and reminded tho i union that there are no dear distinctions in vho trenches, nor were there any in New Zealand in fhe manner implied in tho resolution, and.9s ■ per cent, of tho people of Now 'Zealand were workers. „ _ _ ‘/Let me say in conclusion, added Mr, Mcssoy in his reply, “that if the •last sentence of your resolution is intended to threaten the Government,.it will not have tho slightest effect, and, while-expressing no opinion at ■present on the subject- of conscription: compulsory serveie, the Government will do exactly what it believes to ho_ right from a national standpoint, and is prepared to take tbe consequences.”
