Having made up its quota for the Eleventh, Auckland still has a surplus of 460 in all branches to form a nucleus for tho Twelfth Reinforcements. In the last three days the registrations have totalled 69 men. AN AUREAL TO WELLINGTON. NOT TO FAIL NOW. WELLINGTON, Dee. 2. An urgent appeal has been issued by tho Defence authorities to-day for 100 G laen to register at onco to make up tho boo required for tho infantry of the Eleventh Reinforcements, The present response is viewed with grave concern, because if the numbers are once not made up the position will bo serious. It would moan that New Zealand has failed for the first time not only to fulfil her pledge to the Imperial Government but also in her duty to our own force to maintain its strength required in the field, . . It lias boon represented that this is duo to the desire*of .men not to spend the holidays in camp, but if this is true.it is fousidcred that it could only be due to the failure of New Zealand manhood to understand tho urgency of the call. Now the facts are placed hefon., them the department is confident the requirements will be met immediately. ;
