THE WHEAT MARKET.
SHIPPING FOR. AUSTRALIA. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT. (Received Nov. 30, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 30. There is good demand in the Mediterranean for wheat for early shipment. The cargoes of steamers expected to sail in January wore sold on the Baltic Exchange, 6000 tons at 60s 6d and 5000 tons at 61s. It was reported on the Baltic Exchange that Australia had secured a tonnage of 600,000 tons, of which 250.000 tons were transports and interned enemy steamers, Shipbrokers state that to bo on a parity with the rest of the world Australia ought to bo paying 110 sto 120 s per ton. Shipowners who are taking 05s per ton arc very patriotic and must lose hundreds of thousands. Ninety shillings per ton was paid from the River Plate, from which there are two million bushels for shipment. The Press Bureau says the British Government has not requested Canada to commandeer wheat. It has no information on the subject.
SKILFUL MOVE. BY NEW YORK SPECULATORS. (Received Dec. 1. S.lO a.m.) NEW YORK. Nov. 30. Ap much as twenty million bushels of wheat have been commandeered by tho Canadian Government under contract to New York speculators, who are holding it in the and preventing new grain coming in. Many holders having resold are chagrined at having to fill contracts from other supplies.
