THE DARDANELLES. LORD KITCHENER. WARMLY WELCOMED AT ANZAC. ANXIOUS MOMENTS IN THE TRENCHES. (Received Dec. 1, 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Doc. 1. Captain Bean, cabling from Gaba Tepo, says that Lord Kitchener had a great welcome at Anzae. Only a few of tho senior officers knew he was coming, but tho men recognised him as ho stepped ashore, and tumbled out of their dugouts, spontaneously cheering again and again. Lord Kitchener went through the first lino trenches, which in places were only twenty yards from the Turks. There were anxious moments as he rounded certain corners which were visible to Turkish snipers. •Ho left' after two hours' thorough look at the position. GENERAL BIRDWOOD PROMOTED OTHER CHANGES MADE. WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. A cablegram received by tho Defence Minister reports that changes have been made m the command at the Dardanelles. General Birdwood, who has commanded the Australian and Now Zealand Array Corps since the commencement of operations, has been placed in control of all the British lorccs at the Dardanelles, but doubtless he will work under the direction of General -Monro, who was sent to succeed General Sir lan Hamilton; but who has remained at Salonika. General Godley succeeds General Birdwood in command of tho Australian and New Zealand division of that corps, and ho is succeeded in his position by Brigadier-General Sir A. H. Russell, while Brigadier-General Legge commands tho Australian Division and other portions of tho Army Corps.
