ON THE HIGH SEAS.
ATTACK ON THE MERCIAN. (Received Nov. 30. 8 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 20. Describing the attack on the .Mercian a corporal of the Lincolnshire Yeomanry states that a submarine attacked her for an hour on Novembei 3, firing a hundred shells. The second demolished the wireless apparatus. The troops sheltered wherever possible. The captain manoeuvred the ship wonderfully. Some boats were picked up after two days’ privations. A TURKISH SUBMARINE. SHOWS MUCH HUMANITY. (Received Nov. 30, 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 29. A Turkish submarine stopped the British steamer Bnnilos. After twentyfive had been drowned the submarine assisted many of the 250 passengers, who jumped overboard. Mi's. Egan, who has arrived here, states that there was a panic when the submarine was sighted. The passengers and crew wore mostly Greeks and made for the boats, hut‘three capsized. The submarine launched a collapsible float and the officer shouted; “Be calm; wo urn not murderers.” After standing by for five hours and assisting in the rescue the submarine disappeared.
LOSSES ON THE ANGLIA. liONDON, Nov. 20. The casualty list of those lost in the torpedoing of the Anglia gives four officers, one nurse and 130 men.
