Mr. W. Huberts’ special prize for the baby show is now on view in his window. A drill sergeant was drilling the recruit squad in the use of the rifle. Evervthing went smoothly until Clank cartridges were distributed. The recruits were instructed to load, thenpieces and stand at the “ready,” and then the sergeant gave the command; ‘Tire at willl” Private Perilous was puzzled. He lowered his gun. 'Which one is Will?” he asked. An olp wheat stack, which has stood in a stack-yard at Aisby, South Lincolnshire, England, for close on forty years, has just been threshed. Although the outside straw was black with ago, the grain was of good colour, but exceedingly hard. Various stories have prevailed as to why the stack was not threshed at the proper time, one being that tho lato owner once made a vow'not to thresh it until wheat realised a certain price, and which, in his lifetime, it never attained.
