BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETINGS OF COMMITTEES. A meeting of the Borough Works Committee was held on Monday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (acting-chairman), Councillors Burgess, Collis, Hayden, Johnstone, M’annix, Medley, Monteatli, Short, and Sykes. An apology was received front Councillor Smith for absence through'illness. The following resolution was carried; That the Sub-Inspector of Police for the time being stationed at New Plymouth be and is hereby authorised by the New Plymouth Borough Council on its behalf to make or lay informations and complaints for broaches of the bylaws for the time being and from time to time in force in tue said Borough of New Plymouth or now and hereafter made and* enacted - by the council and to appear and act for and on behalf of the council in respect of such informations and complaints. This authority, however, is not to affect in any way the similar authority already given to the borough inspector. Consideration of Mr. Skitrop s letter ro work done by Mr. Kyngdon in Waiwaka Terrace was deferred. Consideration of Mr. Skitrop’s letter re damage done to borough streets by the cartage of material to the new hospital was deferred. Present: Councillor Burgess (chairman), his Worship tho Mayor, Councillors Collis, Hayden, Johnstone, Mannix, Medley, Monteatli, Short, and Sykes. . , Tho borough engineer was instructed to report the length of tram track soltarrod to September 1. The consulting engineer was instructed to give effect to the recommendation contained in his letter of September 3 in regard to the lay-out of the tram track at Breakwater Rpad. Consideration of the question of advertising on-the tramways was deferred until the appointment of the tramways engineers

ELECTEIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Electric Light Committee was held on August 30, there being present: Councillor Monteath (chairman) his M'orship the Mayor, Councillors Hayden, Smitji, and Sykes. Instructions were given to limit _ the period of the guarantee to be given by Mrs. Pott to ten years. At a meeting on Monday evening there were . present: Councillor Monteath (chairman), Councillors Burgess, Hoyden, and Sykes. A letter from the consulting engineer notifying an extra of £BO for cable trenches at the substation buildings, and also extras for putting an acidproof coating on the battery-room floor was received.
